The very first Patreon Exclusive episode was ....super short. It first aired on July 22, 2021. I wasn't sure if it would play or work at all. But, this test led directly to another 28+ episodes, so thank you, evolution ;)
Here's a shortie for you to enjoy about a #1 moth who looks like #2.

Your host, Melissa McCue-McGrath is an author, dog trainer, and behavior consultant in Southern Maine. She'll talk about dogs all day if you let her. You've been warned :)
[00:00:00] This is BewilderBeasts, an infotainment show dedicated to inspiring curiosity for all
[00:00:13] ages by investigating the ways animals intersect at humanity.
[00:00:17] I am not a historian and a anthropologist, a researcher, a scientist, a zoologist,
[00:00:22] a trained audio engineer or an expert in, well, anything.
[00:00:26] Y'all, I'm lucky if I can remember to put my clean laundry in the dryer before it gets
[00:00:30] funky.
[00:00:31] And while I make every effort to present things as accurately as I can with a fun flair,
[00:00:36] I'm going to mess up!
[00:00:37] And that's okay.
[00:00:38] I hope I've given you a nice place to jump off from on your own adventures into curiosity
[00:00:42] or at the very least, I've given you the key to when your next round of trivia.
[00:00:56] Hello and welcome to BewilderBeasts Patreon exclusive.
[00:01:12] I'm your host, Melissa McCumick, graphed still recording from the tiniest podcast studio
[00:01:17] closet outside of Boston, Massachusetts.
[00:01:19] And today we're going to talk about an evolution swing in a mists that's really a big hit.
[00:01:24] A gross hit.
[00:01:26] Alright, let's go!
[00:01:43] Everyone, hey, this is our first bonus episode for Patreon.
[00:01:47] So if you can hear my voice, you have been supporting this show and this episode is exclusively
[00:01:53] for you.
[00:01:54] So thank you, thank you, thank you.
[00:01:56] Remember, eternal gratitude and thanks is one of the benefits that you get for signing
[00:02:01] up because I didn't know what else to add for benefits.
[00:02:06] So I am so excited to start this feed.
[00:02:10] My intention was to start this in September when we came back from our regular shows but
[00:02:14] I thought maybe I'd have a couple just kind of waiting in the queue for you when you
[00:02:17] do sign up and that way you can hit the ground running.
[00:02:20] So speaking of hitting the ground running, let's just get right to it shall we?
[00:02:23] Okay, so evolution.
[00:02:32] We can all agree it's pretty cool, right?
[00:02:34] Sometimes evolution says hey, let's get legs.
[00:02:38] It'll improve your ability to move, stand, develop a poseable thumbs, you will be unstoppable.
[00:02:45] Sometimes evolution says let's class up this joint.
[00:02:47] Hey, this creature needs the most visually appealing features to attract mates and
[00:02:51] that geophotographers for the rest of time.
[00:02:54] And other times evolution says, let's make this one look like poop.
[00:03:00] This poor moth drew the short end of the evolution stick or maybe evolution just needed to get
[00:03:06] some toilet humor out of the way before moving on to bigger, brighter, more appealing things
[00:03:09] when this poor moth rolled in and said hey, what about me evolution?
[00:03:15] But even funnier, the name of this particular moth that looks exactly like bird do-do is called
[00:03:22] and I'm not making this up.
[00:03:24] The beautiful wood nymphs.
[00:03:27] I will say watching videos of the beautiful wood nymphs, they are striking and they're
[00:03:31] quite beautiful in the air.
[00:03:33] That part is no lie.
[00:03:35] But when they're at rest, if I was a bird looking for a very easy meal, I would take a hard
[00:03:42] pass on this moth.
[00:03:44] I think the closest equation that I could make would be if I were eating a poop colored
[00:03:50] and shaped cookie, even knowing it was a delicious dessert.
[00:03:55] Even if it were a rainbow one marketed as unicorn poop cookies, I could not do it.
[00:04:01] And neither can the birds.
[00:04:03] So while they looked like they drew the short end of the straw, evolution kind of did
[00:04:07] them a solid or if I'm being honest, not quite solid, they're kind of gooey and should
[00:04:13] maybe seek medical attention.
[00:04:21] But if you want to see these creatures check out the links in the episode, but also if
[00:04:25] you happen to live on the eastern seaboard of the United States and Canada, you can
[00:04:28] see them from Nova Scotia all the way to Florida and as far west as Texas.
[00:04:33] So if you're willing to investigate what is likely, very likely actual bird poop.
[00:04:38] But if you want to take a gamble, it might actually be a beautiful moth.
[00:04:43] A beautiful wooden moth that looks like a pile of peeps, P.U.
[00:04:53] So stay tuned and we will have more episodes coming this one was short.
[00:04:57] This is a test I just want to make sure that my Behagian exclusive content works.
[00:05:01] And I was hoping to maybe bring a smile to your face so thank you for supporting this show.
[00:05:06] I will be putting out at least one bonus a month but I wanted to make sure that there's
[00:05:09] a nice collection here for y'all who are paying members of this little podcast.
[00:05:13] If there are topics you would be interested in hearing on the podcast, know if historical
[00:05:17] animals who change the world and other animals that look like, you know, poop, send them

[00:05:43] I'm Melissa McKimigrath with Mutt Stuff Media.
[00:05:46] Now go get curious.
[00:05:49] I got today's information from treehugger.com.
[00:05:52] It's real guys.
[00:05:53] It's a real website of course it is.
[00:05:56] I naturalist.
[00:05:57] Y'all, if you haven't done I naturalist, I promise this is not an ad that's why I'm doing
[00:06:01] Patreon because I do not want advertising on their show.
[00:06:04] I naturalist is really fun.
[00:06:06] It's like Pokemon for adults or people who don't want to Pokemon.
[00:06:10] So you just walk around with your camera and you take photos of nature, birds, animals,
[00:06:14] plants, you can record bird songs and you kind of collect them all.
[00:06:19] And I've learned a ton and my kiddo loves playing with this app too so get on that.
[00:06:24] And again, I'm not getting paid by them.
[00:06:26] Maybe I should but hey, get out there and try i naturalist.
[00:06:30] You'll have a lot of fun.
[00:06:32] Links as always are in the description of today's episode.
